RASK Attorneys-at-Law has consulted more than 100 cases in the field of public law

In August 2014, RASK Attorneys-at-Law won the competition of providing national legal assistance in administrative matters organised by the Estonian Bar Association during a period of 1 November 2014 until 31 December 2016. The aim of RASK was to ensure, with its motivated and experienced team, attainable and high-quality state legal assistance to unprivileged people in the field of administrative matters.

The most important reason for providing national legal assistance is the drastic increase in the number of people who need legal assistance. Until the end of 2014, national legal assistance in administrative matters formed a minor part of the legal assistance of the whole state. The average number of consultations amounted to 33 per year as of 2014; however, RASK has consulted more than 100 cases under the legal assistance project in one year. Therefore, the demand has increased more than three times.

RASK has advised recipients of legal assistance in arguments with the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, local self-governments, The Social Insurance Board and with other administrative authorities (including the Police and Border Guard Board). Many cases have concluded with positive results for the recipients of legal assistance and solutions have been found for the majority of problems. Help has also been provided for asylum seekers.

It has become evident in the process of providing national legal assistance that only a small amount of people are aware of the possibility of receiving national legal assistance, which is why the assistance may not reach everyone who is in need of it. The team of administrative proceedings’ department of RASK and the state law team hope that the current activity of RASK and the information provided about the availability of national legal assistance will make common legal assistance more accessible for the average person.
