Birgit Aasa receives PhD from European University Institute in Italy

On 26 February, RASK attorney Birgit Aasa successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the prestigious European University Institute, achieving a remarkable recognition – a PhD in law.

In her research as well as her daily professional practice, Birgit mainly specialises in European Union law and legal relations between the member states, as well as assessing how these affect the state, businesses and individuals. In her doctoral dissertation, Birgit studied in depth the principle of mutual trust in European Union law, including its development as well as the meaning and role it has in relations between the member states today.

Her doctoral thesis was evaluated by a committee consisting of leading international legal experts: Prof. Bruno De Witte of the European University Institute and the University of Maastricht; Prof. Anneli Albi of Kent University; Michal Bobek of the Court of Justice of the European Union; and Birgit’s supervisor Prof. Urška Šadl of the European University Institute.
