Today, on the  news site Ärileht, RASK legal experts Ramon Rask and Henri Torop explain the legal side of fixed-price electricity contracts: When does the electricity seller have the right to terminate the contract early and when not?

The article also includes three recommendations for reviewing existing contracts:

• First, it is recommended to check whether the contract provides for additional grounds for extraordinary termination or unilateral modification of the contract compared to the law.

• Second, does the contract contain any clauses excluding or limiting the liability of the distributor in the event of a breach of its contractual obligations?

• And third, what are the consequences in the event of early termination of the contract – is there an obligation to pay compensation? Checking these points will give you a better understanding of the security your contracts actually offer.
