Partner Märt Rask in Eesti Päevaleht: „The constitution’s power must be greater than the one of media.“

RASK Attorneys-at-Law partner Märt Rask wrote an opinion piece that was published on 27 April in Eesti Päevaleht. The article discussed the constitutional purpose and importance of journalism in our society, its links with administering justice and the dangers the latter involves.

Märt Rask finds that the constitutional function of free media is the informing, educating, and, if needed, the shaping of the perspective of people – i.e. the supreme political authority in a democratic republic, which ultimately leads to forming the public opinion. At the same time Märt Rask believes that media should not try to substitute itself with the court system and should not sacrifice constitutional values in the name of a sensation.
