Major Events, Media and Sports Law

RASK advises major event organisers, sports organisations and media producers at every stage of their projects – from initial concept development and contractual arrangements to resolving complex disputes and crisis situations. Our team’s expertise spans both public and private sector projects, making us a trusted partner in fields where creative freedom, public interest and heightened risks intersect.

Field information

Organising large-scale events, managing contractual relationships in the sports sector and executing media industry projects involve a distinct legal dynamic. For years, RASK’s team has counselled leading players in these fields, helping organisers, athletes and production companies carry out projects where success depends on well-thought-out risk management, well-structured agreements and a fair division of responsibilities.

RASK’s reference portfolio reflects the breadth and diversity of the sector. As a long-term legal partner of Rally Estonia, we have advised on the organisation of FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) stages in Estonia, supported the Weekend Festival team in delivering the largest music festival in the Baltics, and assisted the Estonian Ski Association with hosting FIS Cross-Country and Nordic Combined World Cup events at Tallinn Song Festival Grounds and in Otepää. We have also participated in appeal proceedings of the Estonian Olympic Committee and the Estonian Autosport Union, advised on the establishment of an Estonian Basketball League club, and supported landmark film productions in Estonia, such as Truth and Justice and The Agency – some of the country’s largest international co-production projects.

Our experience covers the full spectrum of major event and sports management law – from applying for state support and project funding to drafting safety and risk assessments, land-use agreements with property owners, participation terms and conditions and liability disclaimers. RASK’s role is to ensure that every contracting party has clarity regarding their rights, obligations and risks – well before the lights go on or the starting signal sounds.

In sports law, we advise clubs, associations and individual athletes. Our expertise includes drafting athlete and coach agreements, sponsorship and advertising contracts, scholarship arrangements and transfer agreements. We also represent clients in sports disputes in Estonia and in proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). RASK’s advisors have supported clients in formalising club-transfer agreements as well as challenging disciplinary decisions and competition bans, safeguarding athletes’ rights and ensuring fair proceedings.

In the field of media projects and audiovisual production, we assist both domestic and international productions – preparing artist and performer agreements, licensing and distribution contracts, as well as data-protection arrangements between media partners and third parties. Our goal is to support clients’ strategic objectives by creating a comprehensive legal framework. Thanks to extensive experience in advising sports, culture and media projects, we understand the sector’s nuances and know how to integrate legal precision with creative and commercial realities.
